It looks like this is fixed in the current stable version 2.3.1-23 (which I just FTPed). Unless one has this fixed version, the system doesn't run very well with kernel 2.2.12, since the ptys in /dev have the wrong major. So the bottom line is: one needs a newer makedev. The current stable one works, for example. Perhaps there are similar problems for other packages that made it onto older slink CDs, too, so it might be a good idea to add the FTP site to /etc/apt/sources.list and do an `apt-get update; apt-get upgrade' before trying the 2.2.x kernels. This doesn't help people without Internet access, though. -- Raj Manandhar ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (256) 922-1512 x2900 --------------------------------------- Received: (at 46799-done) by bugs.debian.org; 26 Mar 2000 00:20:49 +0000 Received: (qmail 24266 invoked from network); 26 Mar 2000 00:20:48 -0000 Received: from 209-122-226-70.s324.tnt1.nyw.ny.dialup.rcn.com (HELO arroz.fake) (@209.122.226.70) by master.debian.org with SMTP; 26 Mar 2000 00:20:48 -0000 Received: by arroz.fake (Postfix, from userid 421) id 7F98A93858; Sat, 25 Mar 2000 20:12:41 -0500 (EST) To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: add makedev to notes on running slink with kernel 2.2.x From: Adam Di Carlo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2000 20:12:41 -0500 Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Ok, I mentioned you should be running a fully up-to-date slink.
