its been only in the last ten years or so, that "male and female" connectors has been in more
widespread use.
IIRR the terms "plug" and "socket" were more widely used. this is just one of those little
examples that language changes.
perhaps its because "plug and socket" is confusing, whereas "male and female connectors" has an
implied meaning you can't get wrong, perhaps..
however, in the last five years we are heading into more propriety connectors that reverse the
inner pin and recepticle of the connectors, so that male and female connectors are no longer
appropriate. so language may yet swing back to plug and socket, who knows ...
in any event, thread drift strikes again..
