David, I have been on travel (story of my life :-) since changing the status of wicd to ITP and so have made little progress on the package. If you are already working with upstream and have packing ready to go it is probably better if I back out and let you become the maintainer for wicd.
If you are still interested I urge you to move quickly, this is a very good package and needs to be uploaded as soon as possible.
