It's very useful to split large mp3 to make smaller files or to split entire albums to obtain original tracks. If you want to split an album, you can select split points and filenames manually or you can get them automatically from CDDB (internet or a local file) or from .cue files. Otherwise if you have a file created either with Mp3Wrap or AlbumWrap you can split it just in few seconds. Supports VBR mp3. Mp3split is completely FREE (under GPL License) and supported by Open Source Community. * Package name : mp3wrap Version : 0.5 Upstream Author : Matteo Trotta <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> * URL : http://mp3wrap.sourceforge.net/ * License : GPL Description : Mp3Wrap is a free indipendent alternative to AlbumWrap Mp3Wrap is a free indipendent alternative to AlbumWrap. It's a command-line utility that wraps quickly two or more mp3 files in one single large playable mp3, without losing filenames and ID3 informations (and without need of decoding/encoding). Also with the possibility of including other non mp3 files, such as PlayLists, info files, cover images, inside the mp3. This means that you obtain a large mp3 that you can split in any moment just using mp3splt and in few seconds you have all original files again! It's useful because files created with Mp3Wrap are easy to download because who downloads has not to know each single song name and easy to play because even if you don't have mp3splt to split file, you can listen to it anyway. I made the packages with help from daniel burrows ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), who sponsored the upload. >From my original RFS post: > What functionality do these packages provide that quelcom (through > qmp3cut and qmp3join) doesn't? mp3wrap is different from qmp3join -- it rolls metadata into the target MP3 file so that the filenames and ID3 tags for the individual tracks can be later extracted, and it also allows inclusion of text or binary data in the MP3 archive. qmp3join is, as the manpage says, a better but restrictive cat for MP3 files. Aside from unpacking these wrapped archives, mp3splt offers similar functionality to qmp3cut. mp3splt can also handle Ogg Vorbis and VBR MP3 files, which qmp3cut cannot.
