It lives as a workspace member alongside crc32-v2 in the same upstream repository, but is published to crates.io as its own independently-versioned crate, so Debian needs it packaged as a build-dependency. This is needed to package crc32-v2 >= 0.2.0, which replaced its previously-embedded table-generation code with a [build-dependencies.crc32-codegen] entry. crc32-v2 in turn is a missing dependency of binwalk3 (the Rust rewrite of Binwalk), so this ITP is part of a short dependency chain: rust-crc32-codegen -> rust-crc32-v2 -> binwalk3 crc32-codegen has no dependencies of its own, so packaging is expected to be straightforward.
