It is a reasonable question - software authors do move on to other
projects, and a packaging challenge is integrating it with systemd and
other more recent software.

The GnuDIP protocol is used by FreedomBox, as described at
https://wiki.debian.org/FreedomBox/Manual/DynamicDNS

It is offered by some DDNS providers, and built into some routers.
It you are only require a client then ddclient supports many providers.
