Description : C library that simplifies the development of Linux DRM/KMS
API applications
Dear Debian Packaging Team,
I am writing to propose the inclusion of the SRM (Simple Rendering Manager)
library into the Debian repository. SRM is a C library designed to
streamline the development of Linux DRM/KMS API applications. Its primary
goal is to simplify the integration of OpenGL ES 2.0 logic into
applications by automating DRM device and connector configuration.
Additionally, SRM facilitates the creation of OpenGL textures from a single
allocation that can be shared across multiple GPUs.
I initially developed SRM to serve as a graphical backend for another
library that I am actively developing for the creation of Wayland
compositors. Given this context, having SRM as part of Debian would be
highly beneficial for several reasons:
* Dependency Requirement: SRM serves as a critical dependency for the other
library I am working on. Its inclusion in Debian would simplify the
installation process for users and developers of both libraries.
* Future Expansion: I also intend to add the aforementioned library (for
Wayland compositors) to Debian in the future. This library not only
simplifies Wayland compositor creation but also offers improved performance
in terms of frame rates (FPS) and reduced CPU and GPU consumption compared
to alternatives like wl_roots or libweston.
I propose that the SRM package be divided into the following components
within the Debian repository:
* libsrm: This package would exclusively contain the shared library.
* libsrm-dev: This package would provide the development headers.
* libsrm-examples: This package would include the example binaries
demonstrating SRM's capabilities and usage.
The SRM project is well-documented, and build instructions for Debian are
available at the following link:
https://cuarzosoftware.github.io/SRM/md_md__downloads.html
If you have any questions or require further information, please do not
hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best regards,
Eduardo Hopperdietzel
