Ubuntu 21.04 includes gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng by default.

The package provides a GNOME Shell extension for showing the contents of ~/Desktop on the desktop of the Shell. It's a fork/rewrite of an existing extension (package: gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons) but with additional features often desired by users ("-ng" means New Generation).
