The library essentially abstracts accessing the communication protocols Greenbone Management Protocol (GMP) and Open Scanner Protocol (OSP). It's required by the gvm-tools package (which replaces openvas-cli). I plan to maintain it within the pkg-security team with the other openvas/ greenbone packages.
