IIRC this is consistent with smartmontools and the principle of least surprise, because at some point a package will Recommend btrfsmaintenance and all IO heavy jobs impact interactivity even when ioniced. When considering an alternative "disabled by default" I chose not to diverge from upstream's /etc/default/btrfsmaintenance, because we are barely into the Buster release cycle ;-) At some point I'd like to include more detailed recommended configuration examples, including SSD-specific configuration and/or autoconfiguration.
