GIR is used by a large amount of GLib/GObject-based libraries. This is now a dependency of the appstream-generator, which is the primary reason I want it. The secondary reason is because it might in the long run reduce the amount of generated code shipped with the current gtk-d packages. It also is generally incredibly useful, as it allows using any C library that shipts with GIR easily from D. The packaging will be done under the D team umbrella or maybe GNOME team, I don't know yet what makes more sense (likely the former though).
