Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Package name : ttf-bitstream-vera Version : 1.0 Upstream Author : Bitstream, Inc. URL : http://gnome.org/fonts/ License : see below Description : The Bitstream Vera family of free TrueType fonts This is a set of high-quality TrueType fonts donated to the Free Software community by Bitstream, Inc. They fully cover Western European languages (ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-15) and Turkish (ISO-8859-9). They also include a selection of mathematical and other symbols and some limited support for Eastern European languages (parts of ISO-8859-2). Non-latin scripts are not supported.
Description improvements are of course welcome. Currently only a non-distributable preview version is available, so there are no preliminary packages. However the .dsc and .diff.gz are available from http://people.debian.org/~michaelf/ttf-bitstream-vera/ so you can use those together with the preview fonts from http://gnome.org/fonts/ to build your own package. Note that this package must not be redistributed. This is the draft license for the final version: Copyright (c) 2003 by Bitstream, Inc. All Rights Reserved. The Font Software may be modified, altered, or added to, and in particular the designs of glyphs or characters in the Fonts may be modified and additional glyphs or characters may be added to the Fonts, only if the fonts are renamed to names not containing either the words "Bitstream" or the word "Vera". This License becomes null and void to the extent applicable to Fonts or Font Software that have been modified and are distributed under the "Bitstream Vera" names. The Font Software may be sold as part of a larger software package but no copy of one or more of the Font Software typefaces may be sold by itself. THE FONT SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT OF COPYRIGHT, PATENT, TRADEMARK, OR OTHER RIGHT. Except as contained in this notice, the names of Gnome, the Gnome Foundation, and Bitstream, Inc., shall not be used in advertising or otherwise to promote the sale, use or other dealings in this Font Software without prior written authorization from the Gnome Foundation or Bitstream, Inc., respectively. For further information, contact: fonts at gnome dot org. The only slightly questionable part is that the fonts must not be sold by themselves, but my reading of DFSG 1 seems to suggest that this is acceptable. Can the folks on -legal please confirm that my interpretation is correct (and that I haven't missed anything else)? The package will be uploaded once the final fonts are released, which will probably happen sometime next month. -Michael
