I am the maintainer of the tool `hidesvn'. A small utility that uses
LD_PRELOAD to load a library, to hide version control system directories
(.svn, .git, CVS, _darcs, etc) when invoking tools such as tar, grep,
du, etc. without needing to remember long commands to teach those tools
to exclude these directories.

We also use this tool at work on Debian-based systems, so it would be
nice if we could get this upstreamed eventually, so we don't need to
patch our systems locally. I've written a Debian patch, stored here:
