Support for different hardware is added through external modules. This is a dependency of the SDR support in pothos (see my other ITP). I intend to package the hardware support for audio, UHD, BladeRF, Osmo, RTL-SDR, HackRF, RedPitaya and Airspy (these add GPL3 and MIT to the set of licenses). Since these are separate projects without a common release schedule, it appears I will have to package them as separate source packages.
