I'd suggest trying to use the sisu-maven-plugin in Debian first and see if it works. For example the eclipse-aether package also uses the sisu plugin from Eclipse, but we modified it to use the sisu plugin from Sonatype and it worked fine. If the Sonatype plugin doesn't work then I'd suggest upgrading the existing sisu-maven-plugin package and switching it to the Eclipse version. This will avoid two almost identical plugins in Debian.
