OpenVSP is a parametric 3D geometry modeler originally developed by NASA. Under development from the early '90s, it was released as open source in January 2012. Milestone version 3.0 has recently been released and represents a near total re-write of OpenVSP with lots of great additions. OpenVSP is decidely not CAD. It presents an alternative approach to 3D modeling in the spirit of SketchUp, Blender, OpenCSG, and others (though it is unlike all of those). Originally intended for aircraft modeling, the addition of suport for custom components makes OpenVSP suitable for users in any problem domain. OpenVSP should be of interest to anyone looking to build models to 3D print. I am the primary maintainer of OpenVSP and will be willing to help maintain this package -- however, I have never packaged anything before and don't know where to start.
