Description : plugin to use pepper flash with firefox

Flash plugin for linux provided by adobe stopped at version 11.2; for
chrome/chromium users there is pepperflash plugin but it's not supported by
firefox/iceweasel/other browsers. This plugin allow to use pepper flash from
chrome with other browsers (it works not only with iceweasel).
It's still an alpha version, but it seems to work well.

 - why is this package useful/relevant?

This package allow linux users to have updated flash plugin usable
with other browsers than chrome.

is it a dependency for another package?

No, but it could be a suggested package from pepperflashplugin-nonfree.

 do you use it?

Yes, and it could be useful to have it in repository.

if there are other packages providing similar functionality, how does it
compare?

The alternatives, AFAIK, are flashplugin-nonfree and gnash
(browser-plugin-gnash). Adobe flashplugin is just debugged and gnash
was not fully working, and as I see it's no more in Jessie.
