All the issues you mentioned are now fixed in the updated package.

#608164 (abiword.desktop does not validate) - it was the result of a sloppy 
patch I inherited with the package. I corrected the patch causing the problem.

#655308 (FTBFS: multiple problems) is fixed as well.

I integrated the patch for GNU Hurd: #648153 (abiword: FTBFS on hurd-i386)
Apparently it doesn't break build on x86, all good.


I've managed to package latest upstream release by dropping dependency on 
libgoffice - I don't understand the implications of this but new abiword looks 
and feels exactly as before so I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

(Abiword 2.9.2 require unreleased version of libgoffice if configured using 
'--with-goffice'.)

Abiword-docs package (see #556958) is ready and waiting for sponsor as well.
Would you be able to sponsor it together with abiword?

I'm almost finished preparng the package so I will post an update regarding 
source package availability soon.
