Here's a bit of an update: Except for some gnulib-releated test cases that don't work properly, I have been able to build packages of 1.10.x. Upstream generates some files in debian/ through autoconf/automake, this has been a bit of a mess to work around. I will try to find some time tonight to straighten out what I have got so far and push that to the repository. Any help is welcome, of course.
