I asked upstream about my failure to build the binary package and got
the answer as included below. I will postpone further work on this
package until upstream release a version that use the full GNU build
system.

Thanks for considering Algol 68 Genie for the Debian archive.
Until now a68g could make do with the homebrew configure script, but the
way you are using it leaves only one option: upgrading the package to a
full GNU implementation. I think this is the logical step to take now. I
will upgrade version 2.1.0 to the GNU build system.
