Since I put my head up about this, I thought I'd better do something and not just moan! I downloaded the source (gphoto2_2.0beta3-0.1.tar.gz), unpacked it and tried to build it: [EMAIL PROTECTED] $ debuild [...] make[4]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/debs/gphoto/gphoto2-2.0beta3/libgphoto2_port/doc' make[4]: Nothing to be done for `install-exec-am'. /usr/bin/install -c -d -m 0755 /usr/share/doc/gphoto2-dev/html/gphoto2-port /usr/bin/install: cannot create directory `/usr/share/doc/gphoto2-dev': Permission denied make[4]: *** [install-data-local] Error 1 make[4]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/debs/gphoto/gphoto2-2.0beta3/libgphoto2_port/doc' make[3]: *** [install-am] Error 2 make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/debs/gphoto/gphoto2-2.0beta3/libgphoto2_port/doc' make[2]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/debs/gphoto/gphoto2-2.0beta3/libgphoto2_port' make[1]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/debs/gphoto/gphoto2-2.0beta3' make: *** [install] Error 2 debuild: fatal error at line 322: dpkg-buildpackage failed! It's trying to install docs under /usr/share/doc during the build. You should notice this if you try to build as a non-root user. I think you should maybe be using DESTDIR= instead of prefix in the make install in debian/rules, but I haven't managed to make it work properly. Chris -- Chris Halls | Frankfurt, Germany
