Berkeley DB XML is an embedded XML database system based upon Berkeley DB. XML databases offer a middle ground between the basic key-value databases and the rigidity of relational databases. This implementation comes as a simple library and can handle a database in a single plain file or a few files in a directory. There is no need for a database server, user management, etc. There are, AFAIK, no libraries with remotely similar features currently in Debian. The bundle has bindings for various languages, including Perl, Python, PHP and Java. The Perl binding, at least, builds and works well. Regards, -- Nicolas George
