I completely understand what you mean. In an ideal world, we could

closer to that ideal within a volunteer project-honestly, I don't.
However, I'm very open to discussing potential approaches.

just a note: s/leaving/living

There might be a financial challenge for some, as the budget is a bit
more tighten than for previous years (France is expensive, and we lack
some sponsors to have the budget we would need for a "perfect
conference", this is to be read in light of the general financial
contraction the project has endured recently, and that might or might
not become a preoccupation in the coming years if we fail to bring more
sponsors.

Maybe It's time to rethink DebConf expenses. If the incoming is short, it's necessary to cut expenses. I think Gunnar usually says nothing is written on stone, so It's possible, for instance, to cut the conference dinner, organize a shorter DebCamp, cut the swag, and so on.

I'm not talking specific about France, but I feell there is some kind of thought "the debconf I'm organizing can't be smaller/simplier/modestier than the previous debconfs".

IMHO DebConf should produce profit to Debian.

Best regards,
