It's very unfortunate that you didn't read Ian's message, in which he confirmed that I was correct originally, my example was valid, and I had misunderstood what was going on. The only reason why this *appears* to be trivial is because I was running dgit locally: in other words, precisely the thing that would not happen in the tag2upload case.
