Well, AMD have been selling Athlon 64's as their high-end i386 compatible CPU's for a few months, even on notebooks and they intend to replace Athlon's XP/MP progressively. As Intel also started to design ia32e/amd64 cpu's, we can expect them to become more widespread than powerpc, and probably more widespread than i386 in a few years. Of course, this is just speculation. In fact, I believe the existing amd64 user base (which is already comparable to that of powerpc) justifies that GR by itself. -- .''`.
