The only thing that it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to say nothing. I think that the climate is much better if, when such language repeatedly pops up, people stand up and say: this is inappropriate. I don't know if that's sufficient, but I know that it can do a lot to make the "meek" feel more welcome, to know that people will stand up.
