sound problem.

Hello,

Im using Debian unstable with Gnome 2.4.
When I'm klicking on the sound-icon the following error message comes 
"/dev/sound/mixer" doesn't exist.

How can i make this directory??

I have tried the following myself: MAKEDEV - generic, MAKEDEV audio, MAKEDEV 
sound, MAKEDEV /dev/sound/

But with no succes.

Who can help me with this problem.
