He's using email.  In which I don't understand where the
misunderstanding is: If you can send mail, and you are receiving mail,
then the mailing list is working and there is zero reason to send a
test.

Even if you suspect something is broken somewhere, you still shouldn't
be sending test messages to the list.  You should email the list owner
or listmaster if you think the list is broken, or your postmaster if
you think it's on your end.
