If your using a 2.6.x kernel there is now a config option to enable/disable it. Maybe thats why yours isn't working (?). It's under 'Input Device Drivers' and is called CONFIG_INPUT_PCSPKR I also use the speaker to signal when my PPP conection goes down and it took me awhile to find that is was now part of the kernel config. > I liked the speaker version better, but you can't have everything...
