to stay with 4.2 (I don't know if there is a better solution). But apt-get dist-upgrade -s says:
[...] Remv x-window-system-core (4.3.0-7 Debian:testing) [...]
whereas only 4.2.1-12.1 is currently installed. Is it a bug in apt-get or what...?
Perhaps the problem is arising because 4.2.1-12.1 no longer exists in any of the official repositories? I haven't done this before in this scenario, so I don't know whether or not this is the expected effect.
Do you think it would help to try manually setting the current x-window-system-core package to hold?
