You'll need to logout/login to activate your user being added to the audio group.
The i810 module is for Intel-based mobos; this site: http://radscan.com/nas/nas-ml/msg00962.html appears to indicate that you want the trident driver.
Thanks for the link, now happily listening to Shoutcast streams again through Xmms, Trident did the trick.
