Hi I just installed courier imap. I had some problems as well.(Mine was postfix -> maildir related). I saw several things about authenication when I was googeling around. It seems like your problem is that Cyrus does not authenicate you properly. Do a telnet or something to reproduce message and at the same time in a console you can do: tail -f -s 3 -n 20 /var/log/mail.log See if you get any wiser then helps.
