What are you trying to do? It sounds like you might be better off installing Windows XP, or maybe, just maybe installing Debian since this is a Debian mailing list. Also Direct 3d is a Windows only graphics layer, Whats wrong with using Nvidia Linux drivers, and OpenGL, do some research, a lot of people have gotten their Nvidia Chipsets to work in Linux.
