I dont think I wanna try to upgrade the kernel so I can get the latest Moz or Opera. I got a flakey motherboard. It runs MS-DOS & FREEDOS, but not ROM-DOS or DR-DOS. Seems to be a CPU cache problem, but it dont matter whether I use an INTEL, AMD, or VIA cpu. Whatever.
But, as you see, it runs the COREL 1.2 (deb 2.2.18) pretty well. It'll run RH 9, (linux 2.4) if I dont use the VIA, but boy is that a dog, takes forever to boot up. But recent versions of Mandrake & Suse crash on install. And while BSD, Caldera, & Gentoo will install, no ppp driver will connect with my ISP. Even with Corel, 'internet connection wizard' dont, but kppp does. go figure. I already got a life. But- Netscape 4.7 is buggy. Sometimes a website tells me I need to download a flash. But that dont work, it tells me I need a newer version of Netscape. But I already knew that. Linux is so good about telling me stuff I already know, and so bad about telling the stuff I need to know. Anyway, I could put up with the websites locking up the browser, but the message filters dont work, and the spam filling my mail box keeps figuring how to get past the isp filters, and I can see the trend. Maybe I could get by with just a better emial tool. But- what is curious, is that when I went to Mozilla, I couldnt find an earlier version; it only wanted me to download the latest, and told me I needed to upgrade the kernel. I already knew that. But I got a kernel that works, and dont want to muck it up. Then going to Opera, that search for an earlier version ran into a snafu in their .html that kept bouncing me back to the link that I called from. So- what more stable browsers work with 2.2.18? At least I might know specifically what I need. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
