As long as audio is ignored, HDMI and DVI-[D,I] are typically equivalent functionally, so common DVI-to-HDMI cables or adapters usually can be counted on to be superior to any alternative involving VGA. I have a bunch of graphics cards with only DVI and VGA outputs that I regularly use with several displays' HDMI inputs, clearly superior to using VGA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface#DVI_and_HDMI_compatibility https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=828172#p828172 -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science.
