I was calling myself out, not you. You have always been helpful and on
target (by which I mean topic). 

I think end-user is a term that connotes those less knowledgable about
how their computer works than some of the people here, who are the ones
answering the questions rather than asking them. Some people here are
programmers or administrators of groups of machines at work or at home.
Like you. When's the last time you asked a question in this group? Maybe
I missed it!

My habit is to create a root password at installation time and su to
root for administrative tasks in an xterm, after which, I immediately
exit. I see no compelling reason to alter this habit, unless Debian
phases out su in favor of sudo for the greater good of us, er,
end-users. Hasn't Ubuntu already done that?
