I thought that too, but according to the man page, apt-get update does that job, too (I was always wondering to find my apt-file database up to date and suspected some well-meaning cron job, but that seems to be the secret :-) Hanlon's Corollary: it's almost never the gremlins ;-) Cheers -- t
