Just a word of caution. It does not necessary mean that applications or xdg-open will use the reported handler.
E.g. in corner cases Gtk and KDE interprets mimeapps.list in a bit different way.
exo-open (that is called by xdg-open in the case of XFCE) intercepts some URL schemes like http: and mailto: and uses a XFCE-specific preferences having higher priority. At the same Gtk applications relies on XDG configuration.
