You say below that you are running Debian 12.6 on an old laptop. If so, why are you using initramfs-tools from Raspberry Pi? If this isn't Debian, or if this isn't an initramfs-tools package supplied by Debian, we can't help. Also are you aware that as of the next Debian release there will be no 32-bit x86 kernel or installer?
