Hi,

First thought, if someone using Debian Testing, please check to see if
"alien-arena" is available for installing. In my Debian Testing
environments, only "alien-arena-data" was available but not
"alien-arena", which seems strange???

Reason for this email: Mouse movement in 3D games running in KVM VMs
does not work correctly.

I really like using VMs but at times I also find this frustrating.
(Please explain how, if I am wrong in my assumptions)

If I have an Nvidia card, VMWare Player/Workstation can emulate 3D
graphics. But not in KVM

If I have a Radeon card, KVM can emulate 3D graphics via VirtIO
drivers with OpenGL support. But not so  for VMware
Player/Workstation.

Maybe if I had both in my computer?  I have not tried this.

A second frustration has been with KVM is that I cannot get the mouse
to work correctly when I enter the 3D game. Tested with Alien-Arena,
Minetest and Minecraft.

For anyone using GPU passthrough, how do you get the mouse to work in
3D games? Do mice just work when you use GPU passthrough?

Support for vintage Operating Systems is often lacking too. Maybe
Windows 7 is now vintage too, as I was unable to install the latest
VirtIO drivers in my Windows 7 VM.

But since I would not be able to write virtualisation software myself,
I should not complain too much. I just thank those who have put in so
much hard work which allows me (and others) to run the VMs for running
and testing general server and desktop software.

George.
