Hi all,

tl;dr:

how do I set a fixed resolution on X/XFCE and make debian not care what's on
the display end?

Full story:

I'd like to run Kodi media center or similar on a debian 11 machine that's
connected to my receiver via hdmi.
The machine is an intel N100 and provides graphics, too.

When I switch the receiver (a Marantz NR1608) to some of the other inputs and
back to the debian machine it announces itself as a pseudo-72"-4K display.

The XFCE desktop I run on the machine, when switching there after a while,
will be plastered with display config dialogues, which I then get rid of with

killall xfce4-display-settings

which clears the screen.

What I'd like to achieve is debian just running with a default config (the TV
behind the receiver indeed is a 4K display) and let Kodi do its thing (Kodi
can switch to the native resolutions of the video source, which I prefer it
to do as the LG TV has an absolutely fabulous image processor achieving
better results in image quality then the simple scaling of X11 or the media
centers on it).

So I guess I need to define Modelines, haven't done it ages but can do, but
the real trouble I have is telling debian to just go for 4K as the default
starting point and not care about what happens on the other hand of the hdmi
cable.

Pointers appreciated.

Dex
