I decided to have a play with speech dispatcher, just for fun. After I
installed it, and entered the command string Arbol One suggested, all I
got was a complaint that although speech dispatcher is installed (and
working) I had no suitable output modules. The audio quality of the
complaint made the voice almost unintelligible.
After installing speech-dispatcher-espeak-ng, I got sensible audio
output.
Fun for a few minutes, but not something I'd use day-to-day.
