Hi,

Previously I explained how I have been using AMD Radeon GPUs for
supporting VirtIO 3D GPU drivers in KVM, Steam games, and Wayland in
KDE. All working very well.

I have a few Nvidia GPUs I would like to use but at this time, I don't
think Nvidia proprietary drivers support Wayland.

Others posting have indicated they are using Nvidia GPUs. I often
wonder how that is going for them, and how they achieve the
installation (as I have failed).

>From my reading (via the Internet) the NVIDIA driver 555 and 560
drivers are only beta, and have yet to be included into Arch or Debian
distributions. Please correct me where I am wrong.

NVIDIA driver 555.58 released as stable bringing Wayland Explicit Sync

This morning I installed Arch Linux to a PC with a Nvidia 2070 GPU and
choosing to install KDE plasma and the Nvidia proprietary drivers. The
result was not usable. After trying to enable the drivers, I ended up
with a black screen and a mouse cursor that could be moved about the
screen. I was unable to Alt-F2 to a terminal window, or shutdown the
OS. Power off worked.

I then installed Debian Testing. After installing Debian Testing, I
then installed nvidia-detect which recommended installing
nvidia-driver, which I did, and rebooted.

When I attempted to log in with Wayland selected, the login failed
taking me back to the login screen. I then switched to X11 and was
able to log in and KDE was working well.

Nvidia drivers work with X11, however I have not found that they work
with Wayland, as yet.

Does anyone know a likely time that Nvidia proprietary drivers
packaged with Debian stable will support Wayland?  (I am asking in
case I missed 'the memo' and they are already in Debian or will be in
Trixie?)

One other question I wonder about, is 'Explicit Sync' all that needs
to be fixed for Nvidia proprietary drivers to support Wayland? I kind
of have this feeling that there will be a number of other issues
before Wayland and Nvidia are working well together.

George.
