I should read my own posts. I have now installed Ubuntu 22 with Kernel 5.4 and it is working with the above Nvidia card. But I have only kicked the can down the road to April. I wonder if it will be possible to run Debian 12 or 11 with a 5.4 kernel and nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver?
