Depends on what you are trying to do. But in my experience, if you don't need to do some heavy work to maybe get something to work, take a look at Bottles [1]. It's kinda a GUI for Wine and Proton and seems to have some tricks up its sleeves. So take a look at it, maybe it can do everything you are trying to do.
