Install arandr, use it to set things up the way you want them. Then
have it emit a suitable script.

OK, no problem.  The script I wrote uses xrandr to do that exact thing.

Call that from XFCE's session manager on startup.

How exactly do I do that, and why would it re-enable suspension?
