"apt list" has some limitations in comparison to "aptitude search". I have no idea what was the source of inspiration for aptitude, but this query language appeared perhaps a quarter of century ago.

However I did not post last variant of the query. It is for aptitude.

As to obsolete vs. local packages, my guess is that apt may label some version as obsolete if another version of the same package is still available from some repository. Otherwise it is local.
