I also don't know anything of Bachmeyer and very little of Katamari Damacy, but I know enough to see that it was a pejorative description: Katamari Damacy is a game about a huge ball that agglomerates everything in the environment that it touches. I think the point about the industry needing to find ways to strip down, audit and sandbox dependencies could have been made without attacking systemd, because there is a whole group of people whose mental processes will stop at that point, having found an agreeable bandwagon to jump on.
