There's increasing an extra channel available to attackers - namely 'smart' things, or the IoT. For example, many people have a 'smart' TV that they allow to connect to the Internet so they can use various streaming services. Each of those services, plus the TV manufacturer, then becomes a potential point of attack into your system. Similarly people have security cameras and doorbells connected to the Internet and even things like fridges and washing machines! Any such device can be compromised and used to attack computers or door locks or whatever.
