If you allocate all the space during installation and don't leave any to make adjustments, or to make snapshots, then you're not getting any of the benefits of LVM. In this case, you're just doing static partitioning with extra complexity, and your conclusion would be correct. The key to LVM is to leave some space unallocated. Then you get *options*.
